The critical patient has a life threatening condition or is in immediate danger of developing a life threatening condition, and, without the technology, expertise and attention available only in a critical care setting, death may be imminent. It is widely accepted in both human and veterinary critical care that critical care nurses constitute a vital force in the treatment and recovery of critically ill patients.
