This pilot study tests a new model of undergraduates' information-seeking behavior that incorporates the epistemological development theories of college students. These theories of epistemological development suggest stages of the cognitive processes that students undertake as they construct knowledge. Twenty students at an elite, private research university were interviewed about their information-seeking behavior and knowledge construction techniques while completing a senior essay assignment. Results suggest that students' stage of epistemological development directly impact their information-seeking behavior.
