This pilot study tests a new model of undergraduates' information-seeing behavior that incorporates the epistemological development theories of college students. These theories of epistemological development sggest stages of the cognitive processes that students undertake as they construct knowledge. Twenty students at an elite, private research university were interviewed about their information-seeking behavior and knowledge construction techniques while completing a senior essay assignment. Results suggest that students' stage of epistemological development directly impact their information-seeking behavior.
