A PhotoMOS relay, a superior solid state relay with an ultra low output capacitance, has been successfully developed. A novel structural MOSFET, optoelectro transducer and LED have been assembled into an SOP 4-pin package with an optimized leadframe for reducing output capacitance. Our newly developed PhotoMOS relay is capable of achieving high performance with a product of output capacitance and resistance (CxR) of 10 pFΩ. Further, an output capacitance of less than 1pF has been realized. For high precision measuring applications, a CxR of 10pFΩ in PhotoMOS relays will be more useful than that of conventional electro-magnetic relays or reed relays. This is primarily due to higher frequency operation, higher reliability, and smaller size.
