How to Close a Pelvic Flexure Enterotomy Site Using a TA-90 Stapling Device

Large colon enterotomies are most commonly performed at the pelvic flexure. Reasons for performing an enterotomy include removal of impactions, enteroliths, and foreign bodies. A pelvic flexure enterotomy is also used as an adjunct to small colon andrectal surgeries to decrease the passage of in-gesta by the lesion site. Some surgeons routinely perform pelvic flexure enterotomies in all cases of abdominal exploratories with the goals of increasing intestinal motility and improving post-operative patient comfort.
