Digital radiography (DR), now available in portable systems, provides the means for the equine ambulatory clinician to obtain high-quality dental radiographs in the field. With traditional radiography, the equine ambulatory clinician had to wait untilthe images were processed at a distant location before interpretation and decision on a treatment plan. If the positioning or technique resulted in a non-diagnostic film, the process would have to be repeated. This inefficient use of time is a significant deterrent to the use of dental radiography. The ability to obtain immediate radiographic results in the field allows the ambulatory clinician to provide advanced dental services in an efficient manner.
