Acute Onset PBFD in an Adult Congo African Grey

Adult acute onset psittacine beak and feather disease (PBFD) has not been described. This case report describes acute clinical PBFD that resulted in the death of an 8-year-old African grey (Psittacus erithacus erithacus) that had been recently exposedand presumably infected by an illegally imported group of 200 Indian ringecks (Psittacula krameri manillensisz) and 57 kakarikis (Cyanoramphus species,) over a 4-month time frame. PBFD may present in clinically unique ways in African greys compared to other species.
