Diagnosis and Treatment of the Pet Chicken

Much has been written on the husbandry and care of commercial poultry flocks. Emphasis has been on disease control, flock management, and productivity. While much of this knowledge can be useful, when dealing with small pet poultry situations, many ofthe diagnostic methods and treatment protocols are going to be inappropriate. The option to cull and necropsy for a diagnosis, for example, will probably not be an option when confronted with a beloved pet hen. As such, successful ante mortem diagnostic procedures are needed. In addition, treatment regimens can be modified to ensure a higher rate of survival.
