The Design-Build team developed a method of operation that allowed them to complete the deck replacement in 120 nights, earning the entire incentive. Several objectives were achieved with the successful completion of this contract. The accelerated removal of the old deck prevented the deterioration from progressing to the point where the traveling public would have been endangered. The removal of the old deck and installation of the new deck were accomplished quickly, with a minimum of disruption to traffic. The new deck can be expected to last for several decades. This project brought together the talent and experience of all parties involved, who overcame tremendous obstacles in providing necessary service to the traveling public. The contractor, design consultant, grid manufacturer and NYCDOT administrators deserve accolades for the commitment they demonstrated in keeping construction inconvenience to a minimum.
