Protective coating analysis and bridge maintenance

Recent cost escalations have made bridge painting a major component of annual bridge budgets.The New York State Thruway Authority (NYSTA) contracted with KTA to develop a bridge maintenance painting planning subroutine that will coordinate with existing in-house BMS software.The NYSTA can now integrate paint condition with wuperstructure life-cycle analyses to assure that the appropriate corrosion protection strategy is selected.This effort is believed to be the first time that such a program has been undertaken on a system-wide basis by a major bridge owner.
