A programming language education system based on program animation

摘要

This paper presents the development and evaluation of a programming langauge education systems, which is based on program animation, to cultivate each student's ability to understand how programs work. Students new to programming often find it difficult to follow how a program runs, and how its program status changes over time. First this paper describes a survey on what students have the most trouble learning. Second we describe the design and implementation of an education system based on the results of the survey. Students can access this system in a step-by-step manner and can gain understanding in how an algorithm changes situations. Finally we evaluate the use of the system in a classroom environment.
