The Murray Basin covers an area of 300,000 km~2 in the south east of Australia. The prospective section of the Basin covers three states and is the size of Germany or Colorado. (Figure 1). Two types of deposits identified to date are the WIM (so called after Wimmera Industrial Minerals) offshore sheet Deposits and the more normal strandline deposits such as Wemen, Birthday Gift and Kulwin. the resources quoted for the WIM deposits are some 250m. tonnes of heavy mineral concentrate (HM) in 20 deposits, which are not economic with today's technology due to the fine grain size. The more viable and coarser grained strandlien deposits are estiamted to contain up to 13m. tonnes of HM. the estimated value of this resource is around
