Emergency call positioning and location-based services are the biggest driving forces behind integrating positioning capability into mobile phones. The use of high-sensitivity assisted global positioning systems (HS A-GPS) has proven to be a very accurate method for locating emergency calls. HS A-GPS lacks, however, altitude accuracy, especially in situations where all the available satellites are low on the horizon or very weak, which occurs rather often inside of tall buildings and in urban canyons. Positioning performance could be significantly enhanced through the use of a pressure sensor and, in particular, by assisting the pressure sensor with a reference air pressure via a wireless link like the one described in this paper. A short introductory paragraph on our motivations for carrying out this research and its background are first in line. After that, we list our objectives for this experiment, followed by a paragraph describing and explaining the demonstration and testing system used in this experiment. Next, the testing procedures and results are provided and the results are analyzed in the conclusions together with topics for future work.
