DEVELOPMENT OF EUROPEAN - RUSSIAN ARCTIC MARITIME TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM FOCUS ON THE ARCDEV PROJECT RESULTS EXPERIENCE

In the foreseeable future, the energy demand of Europe will become increasingly dependent on the huge resources of unexploited traditional hydrocarbons of northern Russia and western Siberia. The Russian Arctic Shelf with its 100 billion tonnes of oil resources appears to be the last major hydrocarbon reserve of the planet. Due to the strategic significance of these resources there is a profound demand for transporting them to the market places located mainly within the Russian Federation and the European Union. The exploration and production phases supported by developed infrastructures and economically effective transportation systems are of global importance.
