The cross section for ion-pair formation in electron collisions with HD~+ has been measured and fourteen resolved peaks were found. Time-independent Landau-Zener-Stuckelberg calculation shows that most of the peaks can be reproduced by considering the quantum interference between competing pathways during the dissociation. The calculation includes the Landau-Zener transition amplitudes at the curve crossings, both at small and large R, as well as the semi-classical phases accumulated along each pathway. The total cross section also depends on the capture probability, autoionization width and survival probability. The calculated and measured cross sections of ion-pair formation are in good agreement, both in shape and magnitude.
