Pt- and Pd organometallic complexes and polymers have been prepared. The materials contain the transition metals bonded to ethynylthiophene bridging ligands in square planar configuration, and have different chain lengths and structures. The response of one of them, that is the Pt-TRI polymer, used as sensitive membrane in resistive type sensors, was investigated. The sensors were exposed to water vapours and to a series of alcohols (methanol, ethanol and isopropanol) in the vapour phase. A good sensitivity was detected for methanol and isopropanol, while nearly no response was found towards relative humidity variations (0-90percent) and different ethanol concentrations.
