A New Degree Program - The Integration of Engineering Technology and Technology into Workforce Development - The Bachelor of Applied Science Degree

The development, integration and implementation of existing engineering technology and technology courses which allows for those people in the workforce who have an Associates of Applied Science degrees to complete a Bachelors of Applied Science degree in sixty semester hours. This degree does not try and force the two year degree into a four year sequence, but rather accepts the two year degree and adds a complementary 60 hour, upper division sequence of courses to complete the Bachelors of Applied Science degree. This degree does not have the math science depth that would be found in a engineering technology or technology programs, but provides a vehicle for educational advancement and degree completion to those in the workforce who are motivated by contextual applications of technology. This paper will present the experiences of the first two years that Arizona State University -East has offered the Bachelor of Applied Science degree, and will focus on program development, student matriculation and industry acceptance.
