YBCO films with high-quality in-plane textures have been grown on YSZ-IBAD-buffered stainless steel (SS) ribbons using a modified pulsed-laser-deposition technique based on (i) a large area variable-azimuth-ablation method, (ii) a quasiequilibrium substrate heating, and (iii) a_"soft" substrate transport including the rotation and linear motion of long substrates. J_c values of 1.8 MA/cm~2 and 0.6 MA/cm~2 were achieved for 100 mm- and 500 mm-long SS tapes, respectively.
