Internet-based collaboration system of computer-aided design

the authors developed the support system of detail-design for I- and box-girder highway bridges. This is the collaborative system used on the Internet so that researchers and civil engineers located at remote places can define or polish the desirable detail design data through discussion. However, in order to realize smooth communication, it is desirable to use not only communication based on characters but also on audio. In order to grasp the responses and situations of other participants, it is desirable to use not only the users window using pictures but also using video. In the present study, the system was developed so that design engineers located at remote places can create standardized design data. In this system, opinions are smoothly exchanged, and responses and situations of other engineers are strongly recognized in any cooperative work.
