Background/Objectives. Environmental investigations were conducted at Weyerhaeuser’s Bly Truck Shop site in Bly, Oregon, to characterize soil and groundwater impacted by former petroleum releases. Results of the investigations indicated that elevated concentrations of petroleum-derived constituents above Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) risk based concentrations (RBCs) were located in soils beneath a former shop area (shop area) and a former fueling area (fueling area). Specifically, concentrations of gasoline-range total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH-G), benzene, ethylbenzene, and naphthalene exceeded DEQ RBCs in one or both source areas, and tetrachloroethylene (PCE) was found above DEQ RBCs in two soil samples in the shop area. Contaminated soils were also found to have impacted groundwater in the immediate vicinity of the source areas. In 2011, GSI Water Solutions, Inc. submitted and received approval for a remedial action work plan proposing ex situ enhanced biodegradation as a means to reduce soil concentrations of petroleum-derived constituents below RBCs and subsequently reduce groundwater concentrations within the two source areas.
