摘要

This paper describes the dynamic nature of clutch pedal in-cycle vibration as a powertrain NVH concern. The concern, referred to as whoop in industry, occurs during the clutch engagement and disengagement processes. The paper highlights theparameter investigation through experimentation and numerical modelling. It shows that the underlying cause of whoop is the flywheel nodding motion induced by the fourth cylinder firing a few degrees past the TDC in diesel engines. The significant role of a release lever mass-damper as a palliative measure or optimum control of clutch cover stiffness as an underlying fundamental solution have been highlighted.
