THE EFFECTS OF LAMP REPLACEMENT ON PUBLIC LIGHTING: PHYSICAL AND SUBJECTIVE EVALUATIONS

The analysis of the impacts on people and the environment of a public lighting retrofitting based on lamp replacement is described. The lamps of 55 streets of Porto Alegre city, Brazil equipped by 400 and 250W mercury discharge lamps were changed by 250 and 150W high pressure sodium lamps. The work included photometry and subjective evaluations before and after the modifications on 12 streets. The data gathered allows the analysis of the luminous, perceptual and energy efficiency of the lighting installations.
