Ketosis (fatty liver - haemorrhagic syndrome) in sows

Publications on ketosis in sows are scaise and standard books of pig diseases do not report of it. The fatty liver - haemorrhagic syndrome in pigs has not, so far, been reported. In two consecutive years we have observed several cases of similar health troubles in a breeding to finishing unit with 12 sows. The sows were examined clinically and bacteriological, serological, hematological, texicological and biochemical examinations of diverse samples were performed. The chemical and biochemical analysis were performed by the selective analyser COBAS MIRA. The acetone was analysed by a qualitative diffusion method. 5 sows and 3 progeny were examined at necropsy.
