Safety of Suvaxyn Oral-E Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae attenuated live vaccine in swine

Swine erysipelas (SE) is an important bacterial disease of pigs caused by infection with Erysipelothrix (E.) rhusiopathiae (Wood and Henderson 2006). The disease has worldwide distribution and causes acute systemic and chronic infections in susceptible pigs. Immunizing pigs against SE using live or killed vaccines is a common practice (Haesebrouck et. al. 2004). Despite their widespread use, little information has been published that demonstrates the safety of live SE vaccines. This study evaluated the safety of a commercially available live SE vaccine.
