In the comprehensive clarification of a disease event of the respiratory tract, the recording of slaughter findings represents an important instrument for the evaluation of a herd's state of health. For single animal diagnosis and for the determination of pathogens involved in a disease event, the dissection of perished animals or animals killed for this purpose has been of recognized importance for a long time. In recent years, with the observation of ethical and economic aspects, the obtaining of germ materials from the bronchi of diseased animals using pulmonary lavage has attained great importance. In the author's opinion, those practicing this procedure do not always sufficiently consider the interpretation of such examinations, the procedure when obtaining samples and the method of germ identification.
