The effects of a magnetic field (0.55 T) on the size and morphology of calcium carbonate in both static and recirculating conditions were studied. CaCO_3 was precipitated by mixing calcium chloride and sodium carbonate solutions at a one to one ratio. The experiments were performed at a range of supersaturations, temperatures and flow rates. SEM pictures and measurements of induction times and Crystal Size Distributions did not show any obvious results suggesting an effect of the magnetic field in both static and recirculating experiments. However, indications in the recirculating experiments of prolongation in the induction times and increase in the mean size of the magnetised calcium carbonate particles were recorded.
