Soil stress and deformation state is dependend on vehicle undercarriage configuration, mass and load distribution as well as vehicle tractive performances. Therefore, measuring of stresses and deformations in soil under various (element jezdny) in respect to traction dynamics may provide with helpful informations for vehicle traction optimization. The stress and shearing strains determine the changes of soil bulk density during a loading process. Therefore, measurements of stresses and deformations in soil is important for studing soil mechanics especially soil compaction. Most models of compaction relate the volume change in soil to the applied stress. The complete stress state needs to be known when the pressures created by a tire or a track are needed for further evaluation of compaction models. The aim of this study was to develop a stress-deformation measuring system capable of providing sufficient data needed for determination of soil stress-deformation state. The innovation of the present author is the application of contactless soil deformation measurements taken by means of a laser projector and a CCD camera. Moreover, a 6-sensor transducer has been constructed based on the SST design [1,2] for the measurements of soil stress components in which pressure transducers developed by the author are installed. Some significant improovements in soil stress and deformations methodology are also presented.
