To reduce vehicle wind noise, we must implement the following three measures: 1) seek vehicle designs which suppress wind noise, 2) improve cabin insulation to keep out wind noise and 3) improve vehicle assembly quality in the production process. We have developed a Blowdown Type Wind Tunnel which generates local area wind and enables the direct measurement of wind noise generated at the surface of the vehicle. This high S/N radio measurement allows the separation of each noise source and quantitative analysis of it. In this paper, we introduce the system technology and give an example of a vehicle design proposal made by utilizing this system.
