A Multimedia System to collect, manage and search in narrative productions

This research shows how new information and communication technology can support the community's knowledge base, providing the community members with non-intrusive tools and suitable procedures for saving, improving and transmitting cultural identity. The prototype of the system I'm going to discuss is a multimedia archive where oral memory plays the main role. The term oral memory stands for a set of knowledge which belongs to the community, has been augmented by time, and is essentially the users' history. The oral memory has been elicited and transmitted through face-to-face interactions for three centuries. The only external signs of this implicit knowledge are the physical objects collected by the community. They don't have any meaning if not linked to that knowledge even if they are the unique guides through which people out of the community or new members of it can be connected to the socio-cultural heritage.
