Capital costs of eight major airport APMs are analyzed and compared. Cost comparisons are also made between the urban and airport APM systems. Particular consideration is given to the vehicle, engineering management, various design issues,construction tolerance and quality control, construction materials and techniques. The cost issue is also examined from the performance and planning perspective for both existing airport expansion and brand new airport construction. In addition, thetangible and intangible benefit issues of airport APMs are also carefully evaluated. Cost reduction and benefit enhancement recommendations are made based on the results of the study.
