Fine paniculate material is under measured using a single filter sampler because of the loss of ammonium nitrate and semi - volatile organic material from the particles during sampling. Past studies in Riverside and Bakersfield CA have shown that an average of 33% of the total PM2. 5 mass is lost during sampling. These semi - volatile fine participate components can be accurately measured using a PC -BOSS diffusion denuder sampler. The design of the sampler, its validation in studies in Riverside and Bakersfield CA, and plans for use of the PC — BOSS in China are given.
