摘要

In the paper a new method to design moment resisting steel frames able to fail in global mode is presented.Starting from the study of the inelastic behaviour of such type of structures subjected to increasing horizontal forces,the authors have defined a design procedure based on the plastic analysis; the beam cross-sections are assigned such in way to resist to vertical loads,while the column cross-sections are determined by an application of limit design,taking also in account the necessity of minimising the structural cost.The application of the proposed design method is shown by means of an example; the inelastic behaviour of the structure thus dimensioned,compared to that of structures designed according to criteria proposed by seismic codes and by other researchers,confirm the effectiveness of the proposal.
