The method involves reading model objects of the design model (1,1a) in the development environment, and reading an allocation map, which assigns a global unique key to each model object. The data including the global unique key is read from a memory location, if the data is available, and the data is assigned to the model object, such that the data is available during the processing (14) of the design model. The global unique key is assigned to the model object, such that the global unique key is available during processing of the design model, if the initial data is not available. The design model is edited. The assignment list (2,2a) is stored, in which the global unique key is assigned to the model object.
