This work describes the method of ThermoreactiveElectrospark Surface Strengthening (TRESS). The physical essencethe TRESS method is that the electrode presents a mixture ofchemical reagents which can interact with each other on thesubstrate with a high heat evolution after a local heat initiationof the synthesis reaction by the electric discharge energy. Thusthe process of coating formation becomes a less energy consumingone as compared to the basic technology of the electrospark alloying.The opportunities of TRESS method are exposed with the example ofthe FGM wear and heat resistant coatings formation on the base ofNi Al, TiAl and its' composites with carbides, borides and othersolid fillers. The opportunity of FOM diamond containing coatingsproduction by TRESS is presented. Masstransfer kinetics, coatingstructure and properties were studied.
