Technical issues for a future FTF-LCD plant can be divide into four caregories, reducing investment, yield enhancement, reduction of material cost epsecially on module parts and improvement of image quality for monitor applications. In this paper, two important parts, reducing investiment andimprovement of image quality were discussed. Reducing investment includes minimization of investiment for process equipment and maximization of capacity. key factors to affect the capacity are glass size and the number of process steps for the fabrication. 670 x 830 glass was proposed and new fabrication process having less than 5 masks were developed. To improve image quality of TFT-LCDs, IPS mode was considered and discussed. Finally, concept for a future LG TFT-LCD plant was proposed.
