Metallocene catalyzed Very Low Density Polyolefins VLDPE (MPE) are interesting insulating materials for insulation of Medium Voltage (MV) power cables, due to their good Water Tree Resistance (WTR), flexibility and thermomechanical properties. Unfortunately their processability is critical and their unaged electrical performance, also as a result of the above factor, is poor. In this paper several MPE polymers with very low crystallinity and different processability were investigated. Experimental results showed little improvement of the unaged electrical performance, even for the materials with better processability. A molecular modelling approach, which has been succesfully applied in many other fields, has been used in order to provide an interpretation of the phenomenon.
