Lca As a Tool for Improving Environmental Performance in the Power Sector

The LCA methodology adopted at Vatterfall is described in brier. Results are presented from studies of all different types of electricitygeneration at Vattenfall. LCA is a useful tool and motivating force in the environmental work. How to use LCA in studies of subsystems, and comparative environmental performance of two different solutions, is shown by studies of Powerformer, the new ABB system, as well as a traditional one. Third party certified environmental declarations, based on LCA information, for communication with professional customers is briefly discussed.
