Every waste treatment techniques for Municipal solid waste (NSW) generates greenhouse gases (GHG). within this paper CH4 and CO2 emissions of 14 different techniques of waste treatment are balanced, i.e. 3 types of landfill technique, 3 types of incineration plants, 6 types of mechanical biological treatment, 9 of them with full or partial utilization of the energy content of the waste. For these treatment techniques biogenic and pyrogenic GHG-emissions have been calculated, i.e. direct emissions, indirect emissions and avoided emissions, generated or avoided by using the specific treatment technique.
