Nitrogen oxides (NO_x) contained in the exhaust gases from lean-burn natural-gas-fueled engines was removed by using an alumina supported silver (Ag/Al_2O_3) catalyst without addition of reducing agents. The NO_x was efficiently reduced by unburned hydrocarbons contained in the exhaust gases over the 2 wt% Ag/Al_2O_3 catalyst. The activity and durability of the 2 wt% Ag/Al_2O_3 catalyst were demonstrated by using the exhaust gas from a 400 kW class lean-burn natural-gas-fueled engine for more than 2500 h.
