This paper describes a fluid-free electrodischarge trueing/dressing method which does not use water soluble grinding fluid to solve problems caused by using grinding fluid. Various kinds of electrodischarging atmospheres, such as mist, dry, compressed air and cold air instead of conventional grinding fluid, were applied to electrodischarge trueing/dressing for metal bonded superabrasive wheels and electrically conductive resinoid superabrasive wheels on a grinding machine. Even if grinding fluid was not used, elimination of wheel run out and forming of a complicated profile on a wheel was possible with this method. Moreover, grinding experiment showed that wheels which was ED trued and dressed in cold air atmosphere showed the same grinding force and less wheel wear compared with wheels dressed with a conventional WA stick stone.
