The implications of the information society on the practice of and training for steelwork construction

摘要

After a brief introduction reviewing progress on the developmentof the information society,this paper summarises the principal benefits and disadvantages of electronic dissemination of technical information.The potential benefits are clearly substantia; most of the disadvantages may be mitigated,with care.As examples,the paper then summarises the wide ranging prototype developments that his organisation is pursuing in order to build up expertise in these new media.The implications of the information society on both the professional life of the engineer and his training are finally discussed.
