Immersion time quenching technology to facilitate replacement of quench oils with polymer quenchants for production of automotive parts

摘要

A review of polymer and oil quenching mechanism is provided to illustrate the quench uniformity advantages of polymer quenchants. Examples illustrating the replacement of a conventional quench oil with an aqueous polyalkylene glycol (PAG) polymer quenchant for the production of automotive parts to obtain significant improvement in distortion control and hardness uniformity is discussed. The advantages of the immersion time quenching system (ITQS) technology is also are reviewed.
