In previous work, we have demonstrated that microsphere deivery systems, manufactured with highly bioadhesive polymers, can increase the residence time in the GI tract, the bioavailability of certain drugs, and the intestinal uptake of small particles. Although there are many ways to evaluate the bioadhesive properties of polymers, there is still much debate over which techniques are best for predicting in vivo performance.
