A set of experiments was performed to determine if the adhesion of Orimulsion bitumen reocvered from the surface of salt water varies as a function of time. Orimulsion was stirred into salt water at a volume ratio of aproximately 1:50, then allowed to stuand undisturbed. Samples were collected, from spearate experiments, at 1, 2, 4, 8, and 16 days, and the adhesion value of the biutmen was determined. It was found that the high oil-to-water ratio resulted in incomplete separation of the bitumen, and that differences observed in the adhesions values were probabily due to factors other than the elapsed time. Specifically, reduced temperatures appearhed to reduce the rate of bitumen separation, producing lower adhesion values.
