It has been established that the nature of the phenylethynyl endgroup specifically the electron-withdrawing ability of an attached substituent affects the glass transition temperature, modulus above Tg, and adhesion strengths of the resulting thermosets generally increasing with increased electron-withdrawing ability. Continuing efforts in our lab are currently geared towards elucidating the various mechanisms involved in curing reactions as well as the application of these materials as composite matrix resins.
