A decision support tool to estimate life cycle costs of heavy-haul transport

The U.S. Department of Energy is evaluating the Yucca Mountain,Nevada site as a candidate for a repository to store commercial and government nuclear wastes.Currently,both rail and truck transportation are being considered.This paper documents the development of a computerized decision support tool to aid in the evaluation of key elements of life cycle costs related to the transportation system for the repository.Key variables are identified and the methodology for developing the decision support is explained.The paper also discusses the structure and format of the decision support tool.
