The edges of honeycomb sandwich panels will often be monolithic composite in order to facilitate attachment to supporting sub-structure. If conditions are not well controlled, the tapered transition region between the panel edges and the full depth core can be crushed during processing. The current paper considers several parameters that affect core crushing, including: external pressure, heat up rate, dwell temperature and time at dwell. The results of the study indicate that a modification to the original cure schedule could eliminate core crushing.
