Introduction to CAI Courseware of Solid State Physics

Solid state physics is one of the basic courses for the students who major in physics or materials science. In that course we are largely concerned with crystal structures and the properties of crystals at a microscopic level. There are many 3-D structures of crystals and many abstract concepts involved in this subject. It is very difficult for the students to form concrete ideas of those structures and concepts simply by thinking and imaging or by listening to the teachers' explanations. In order to provide an efficiency teaching aid the CAI R&D Center of the Physics Department of Fudan University developed the CAI courseware of solid state physics. This courseware base on the long-term accumulated teaching experience of our teachers. It makes possible the fullest use of the multimedia technology to show the students the microscopic structure of crystals and the related physical laws much more visually and clearly. The new aid has proved its great efficiency in teaching solid state physics. In this article, we'll briefly introduce three points of the courseware. They are: 1 .the aim of developing the courseware; 2.some concrete measures to enhance the quality of the courseware; 3.main characteristics and chief contents of this courseware.
