THE LINEAMENTS STUDIES OF THE EARTHQUAKE AFFECTED AREA IN DECCAN BASALTS (INDIA)

摘要

An earthquake of 6.5 magnitude occurred in Terna Valley of Latur and Osmanabad Districts of Maharashtra State. (India) on 30th September 1993 and was felt widely causing heavy toll of life and property. To determine suitable sites for the rehabilitation of villages Govt. of Maharshtra made the use of the map prepared by Dept. of Space, Govt. of India, based on the interpretation of IRS Satellite Imagery on which a large number of lineaments were shown. The geological studies of these lineaments were carried out by undertaking detailed field work by a team of geologists. The investigations have revealed that the lineaments shown on the map are nothing but the stream courses which do not show any geological feature denoting planes of weaknesses such as fractures or faults which were thought to be .
