Management Information System (MIS)1 for The 30th International Geological Congress (IGC), (Aug. 4-14,1996)

The Management Information System for the 30th IGC is one of the scientific research projects supported by the Land Use Department of the State Planning Commission. People's Republic of China. The aim of this research project is to provide a practical management information system for the 30th IGC. In consideration of the reliability, safety, uniformity and timelyness of data, as well as habits of users and economy, a PC local area Network with 10 Base-T and 100 Base-T switch technology is set up constituted by microcomputers of Intel Pentium / 80486 CPU series. MS Windows NT Server 3.51 and Windows for Workgroups 3.11 are adopted for the Network. The Network management is performed through the Domain Model, so that the centralized sale management of accounts and share in resources will be more structuralizcd in distribution and use. Main domain and spare-copy domain guarantee immediate restoration in case the data were damaged. MS SQL SERVER 6.0 and MS ACCESS 2.0 is used for the Database Plate running through the Network. In General Code Base and Congress Information Base, the participants' registrations and expenses, academic subjects, abstracts, financial supports, field trips, meeting schedules, cultural activities, etc.. are placed on file. Graphical information inquiry interface (GUI) is set for all users.
